Introduction

Reaching Assist

Throwing Assist

-
Never jump in to try and help a struggling swimmer. A panicked person can grab onto the rescuer and pull them under.
-
Instead, use an object to reach out and pull the person to safety.

-
Use items such as a pool noodle, rescue tube, or pole to extend to the person in distress.
-
Make sure the rescuer is on their knees to remain stable and avoid being pulled in.
-
Encourage the swimmer to grab onto the object and pull them to the side.

-
Throw a buoyant object, such as a life ring, kickboard, or any floating item, near the struggling swimmer.
-
Always call for assistance from a lifeguard or adult immediately.
-
Instruct the person to grab the object to help them stay afloat until help arrives.
